The Travel Industry Authority (TIA) stated on Monday it was about time for the sector to think about whether it is essential for tourist guide to stand and talk on a moving coach.
This followed a guide was tossed out of a car and passed away in a crash in Shanghai last Friday.
The authority’s executive director, Annie Fonda, stated authorities there were still examining, and the TIA would keep in contact with them to see what took place.
She stated companies ought to study whether trip guides must be using their seat belts at all times.
“After this incident, I think the trade can share their views about whether it’s really necessary for tour guides to stand on a [moving] coach and speak to tour members,” Fonda stated on Commercial Radio.
“Safety belts are important. Say, on airplanes, flight attendants can put on their seat belts while seated as they face passengers. These are things we can study.”
She included the guide was a freelancer and his business, Miramar Travel, had actually purchased work insurance coverage for his journey.
For his part, unionist Lam Chi-ting concurred the sector might study fitting standing-room safety belt for tourist guide.
The director of the Tourism Industry Employees’ General Union stated on RTHK that it’s inevitable that guides have to move around the automobile, such as gathering travel files.
